Onslow is located 1387 km’s north of Perth, the area was first settled in the 1880’s by graziers who bought sheep into the area. In 1883 the town was founded and named after Sir Alexander Onslow, the chief justice of Western Australia at the time. During World War II it became an important US submarine refuelling base and it was bombed by the Japanese in1942.

The Montebello Islands, located to the north west of the town were the highlight of fame or perhaps infamy when in 1952 they were chosen as the first site for a series of British atomic bomb tests between 1952 and 1956. Just 22 km off shore are the Mackerel Islands which are noted for their sport fishing and bottom fishing. There is a holiday resort on Thevenard Island with beach front cabin accommodation. Each cabin even has its own dinghy.

Now doesn’t that sound like a nice place to spend the weekend? Departing Perth, in just over 2 and a half hours we will have you in this magnificent region. Give us a call and we will design a package to suit you.
