Media Release Skippers Wins Meeka/Wiluna Air ServiceSkippers has today announced that they have been awarded the Meekatharra / Wiluna regular passenger service for an additional year.
The Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, Alannah McTiernen, granted an exclusive licence in late October for Skippers to continue their current service between Perth and the two burgeoning townships until 30 November 2005.
Immediately following the Ansett collapse in 2001, Skippers was instrumental in ensuring continued services to these communities which may otherwise have been abandoned. In its last three years operating the service, Skippers has provided a consistent service aimed at meeting community needs and stimulating sufficient demand to ensure the route's commercial viability. Passenger numbers have steadily increased and look set to continue following a renewed focus on various resource projects within the region.
Skippers CEO, Rob Swann, was pleased by the news. “Yes, it's great to have the opportunity to continue this service. We've invested a considerable amount of effort over the last three years trying to leverage the opportunity provided by the various resource companies in the area that underpin this vital community link.”
“We look forward to furthering our endeavours in the coming year to create additional value for the residents of both Meekatharra and Wiluna.”
Skippers offer airfares between Perth , Meekatharra and Wiluna starting from a low $168*.
