Skippers Announce New Flight on
Meekatharra - Wiluna Route

In recognition of increasing demand for more frequent air services, Skippers have today announced the introduction of a Thursday flight between Perth, Meekatharra and Wiluna.

The flight will be introduced on a four week trial period commencing Thursday, 24th March and will mimic the current Friday Meekatharra / Wiluna schedule.

Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan welcomed the new Thursday service.

"Our aviation policy is focused on increasing scheduled services to the region and so we are always pleased when our remote communities receive upgraded services," Ms MacTiernan said.

Skippers CEO Rob Swann is confident that the additional flight will become a permanent fixture on the schedule. “The opportunity for travellers to take advantage of this additional weekday flight is driven largely by the commitment shown by the various resource companies operating within the area. We commend their commitment in supporting these vital regional services and look forward to working with them and other potential users to ensure that this service becomes a permanent and sustainable feature for these remote communities“, Mr Swann said.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to both the Meekatharra and Wiluna Shires whom have been instrumental in allowing the growth of this service. We look forward to their support in enabling further long-term growth for the benefit of the people of Meekatharra and Wiluna,” Mr Swann added.

Skippers normally offer flights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between the three locations, with recent demand often requiring upgrades from 19 seat aircraft to larger capacity aircraft.

Public feedback is invited on the proposed service, which can be directed to Skippers, PO Box 1060 Osborne Park WA 6917 or emailed to Skip-e-News@skippers.com.au by Friday, 29 April 2005.
